There was a pause as data was processed, implications were assessed, and decisions were formulated through collective intelligence that operated faster than any single participant could match.

"And Mara Sinclair?" The concealed voice again. "The Guardian?"

"No." The concealed voice carried authority that ended debate. "Mara Sinclair serves purposes even while opposing us. Her resistance creates legitimacy. Her guardianship makes the Entity’s integration appear democratic rather than imposed. Her protection ensures that populations accept transformation because someone they perceive as independent is facilitating it."

Pause for emphasis.
